The music world is mourning the loss of US rapper Fatman Scoop, who tragically passed away at the age of 53 after collapsing on stage during a performance in Connecticut. The news was confirmed by his family in a heartfelt announcement.
Fatman Scoop, best known for his chart-topping hit “Be Faithful” which dominated European charts two decades ago, was performing at Hamden Town Center Park on Friday evening when the incident occurred. According to town Chief of Staff Sean Grace, Scoop was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
In a poignant Instagram post, his family expressed their deep sorrow, describing him as “a radiant soul, a beacon on stage and in life.” While the world knew him as an electrifying performer who brought crowds to their feet, his family remembered him as “the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage.”
Scoop’s manager, Birch Michael, shared his grief on Facebook, writing, “I love you Scoop. Thank you so much for everything you gave to me.”
Fatman Scoop’s contributions to the music industry extended beyond his own hits. He was widely recognized for his powerful feature on Missy Elliott’s 2005 summer anthem “Lose Control,” which also featured Ciara. The track earned a Grammy for Best Short Form Music Video in 2006.
Missy Elliott paid tribute to her collaborator on Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Scoop’s voice and energy have contributed to many songs that made people feel happy and want to dance for over two decades. Your impact is huge and will never be forgotten.”
The loss of Fatman Scoop marks the end of an era for hip-hop fans worldwide, as they remember an artist who not only brought energy to the stage but also joy to countless listeners.
