Taylor Swift seems to believe in more than just her chart-topping hits—she believes in a thing called love, too! The British rock band The Darkness has found themselves at the top of the U.S. charts once again, thanks in part to an unexpected viral moment involving the pop superstar.

The Darkness’ 2003 anthem, I Believe In A Thing Called Love, is a cornerstone of their breakout album Permission to Land. Known for its infectious guitar riffs and playful energy, the song has become a staple for hard rock fans. But recently, it’s gained fresh traction in the U.S., not on rock radio, but through the unlikeliest of sources—Taylor Swift and the world of sports.

During the U.S. Open Women’s Final, a video clip of Swift singing along to I Believe In A Thing Called Love with NFL star Travis Kelce made waves online. The video quickly went viral, sparking a resurgence of the track across the States. As a result, the band’s signature song shot to No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes Rock Chart.

In response to the unexpected boost, Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins took to TikTok to express his gratitude. “A massive thanks to Taylor, her team, and her incredible army of Swifties,” he said. “This whole experience has been a wonderful surprise.”

Hawkins also shared a personal story about his recent encounter with Swift’s generosity. A few weeks earlier, he and his daughter attended Swift’s show in Zurich. “They put us in a beautiful VIP area—I had Chris Rock on one side and Roger Federer on the other. I was dad of the year,” he reminisced. To top it off, Swift left Hawkins a heartfelt letter in the VIP section, expressing her love for I Believe In A Thing Called Love.

The frontman couldn’t contain his joy, calling it a “heartwarming moment” that left his daughter excited to share the story with her friends. “Thanks Taylor, thanks Travis, thanks everybody who enjoys tennis. It’s been a lovely start to the day. Nice one, guys,” Hawkins said with a smile.

As The Darkness rides this wave of renewed popularity, one thing is clear: Taylor Swift’s influence knows no bounds, whether she’s dominating her own charts or helping a classic rock anthem find new life.
